As Fast As Words Could Fly tells the story of Mason, a teenager growing up in North Carolina who becomes one of the first black students to attend an all-white high school. In this guest post, Lee & Low Books interviews my father, Moses Teel Jr., whose experience during integration inspired the book.

Author, Kate Hannigan spotted me signing for Lee & Low Books at ALA in Chicago, IL in June. We exchanged contact information and she was gracious enough to feature an interview and review of As Fast As Words Could Fly on her blog, Author Of.

Kate is a children's book author of middle-grade fiction and nonfiction. Her debut novel, Cupcake Cousins is scheduled to be released  May 2014 (Hyperion-Disney), and look for her historical fiction middle-grade, The Detective's Assistant in April 2015 (Little Brown Books for Young Readers).
